The Amana-Goodman 20261708 ignitor is an essential part of gas-fired applications particularly furnaces in the HVAC systems. This ignitor is a hot surface igniter, which means that an electric current is passed through the silicon carbide element to heat it to a high temperature to igniting the gas at the burners. When the thermostat demands heat, the furnace control board sends an electrical current to the ignitor. This current is rapidly heats the element to an incandescent glow, at a temperature sufficient to ignite the natural gas or propane.
