It is mounted behind other thermostat models that are compatible with the surface of the wall to cover uneven wall surfaces, or paint marks, or old mounting hardware, and provide a consistent appearance. Installation entails attaching the wall plate to the wall and attaching the thermostat on the top in line with the wiring specifications of the system.
